Cockenheimer is arguably not Nolan’s best, and is more arguably not deserving of its 10+ Oscar’s including best picture. That being said, way worse movies have won best picture in the past and it is no secret that the academy is famously fraudulent when it comes to selecting the year’s best films. Thus, Oscars are unfortunately devoid of value due the selection process lying somewhere deep between democracy and ineptocracy.
However, if they were to be taken seriously, Zone of Interest, Anatomy of a Fall, Poor Things, and maybe even Past Lives were all better picks for Best Picture. Some may even argue for Barbie or Killers of the Flower Moon.
